After watching a video on Youtube by Gtasoul, I would like to share some noteworthy information from the historical records of the “Chronicles of Emperor GuangWu, 7th Year.” Surprisingly, these records recorded in the Chinese Chronicles may actually contain evidence for the Crucifiction and Resurrection of Jesus Christ!
According to Brittanica.com, Emperor Guangwu (or “Guangwudi”) reigned from AD 25–57 as part of the Han Dynasty. Records from this Dynasty period have been found, and according to the speaker on the Gtasoul Youtube video, an excerpt from the “Chronicles of Emperor Guang Wu, 7th Year,” translated into English, reads:
“ 31 AD. Summer, 4th month of the year on the Day of Ren Wu, the Imperial Edict reads Yin and Yang, (or darkness and light) have mistakenly switched, and the sun and the moon were eclipsed. The sins of the people are now on one man. Pardon is proclaimed to all under heaven.”
The aforementioned video also relays another shocking phrase translated from “History of the Latter Han Annals No. 18 Gui Hai,” a connected document from the same time period:
“Eclipse on the day of Gui Hai. Man from heaven dies.”
How could the writer have known of this event which occurred in Jerusalem far away? Supernaturally significant events were recorded in the Chinese annals that allegedly occurred around the same time (approximately 31 AD) as the crucifixion events of Christ described in the Bible. Matt 27:45 says regarding the crucifixion day: “From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.”
So the Bible says that darkness was over the land for 3 hours, just as this Chinese document is describing an inexplicable darkness that came over the land. The writer of the Chronicles also acknowledges that sins of the people were put on one man, and pardon proclaimed. It appears that the Chinese Emperor knew something about the Divine significance of what happened, even though he may not have been told by another human being. Could it have been a Divine Revelation to the Chinese about Jesus Christ? Is it historical evidence supporting the events of Jesus’ crucifixion according to the Bible? You decide.
